Electricity is a very important thing for life today. There are very few people that can live without it. Imagine for just one minute that there were no lights, no computer, no phone, no nothing. What would you do honestly? Many people would say that they wouldn’t care but that’s not true. Most people would start to freak out.
Electricity hasn’t always been around. It was invented in New York in the late 1800’s. Could you imagine the excitement and fear all at once when Thomas Edison introduced it to the city of New York? Life was completely transformed. Mechanization was transformed.
Another thing that was completely transformed was consumer invention. There was an inventing school where many inventions were discovered but few were actually introduced to the public. As more inventions were made at the school people were making more money. There were more jobs offered. All this because of the discovery of electricity.
There were many up sides to electrical power. One big one was that it was safer then gas lighting. Mrs. Roosevelt at first didn’t want to switch to electricity because she thought it was more dangerous then gas lighting. Little did she know that gas lighting was way more dangerous then electric. Gas lighting would and still does cause way more fires then electric.
So next time you lose power in your house don’t freak out just because you don’t have TV. Look at it as an experiment. See if you can live for a few minutes or hours even like people did before electricity was ever introduced or invented. Do you think you can do it? Try it! I dare you!

Good job on your blog. I dont know what i would do without the computer or phone. Things would defiantely be differnt, but im glad their not.
Shelby,
Well Done!
I think that would be a very hard experiment, but i'll try one day i guess. No phone, computer, tv, heat, and refrigerator! Oh wow, too much! Anyhow, I thought it was rather funny that Mrs.Roosevelt thought that electricity will be more dangerous than gas. She actually thought it will cause homes to burn! Anything gas is usually more dangerous than electric duhh!
Nice blog. Man, I can't imagine living without electrity at all. I think i will practically just die. Anyway, I like how you showed the pros and cons on electricity and it is true that without Thomas Edison, we wouldn't have computer, stove or phone. We will still be living in the past. Well in the past, people will believe in anything before actually trying something new like Mrs. Roosevelt. Alot of people were also supersitious about the new inventions and innovations.
Nice job. I like the fact that your topic is something everyone can so easily relate to. No one today could possibly imagine life with no electricity. We would die from boredom. Life as we know it would cease to function because most things today run on electricity.I like that you expressed the ups and downs of Thomas Edison. His invention of the light bulb made way for more complex forms of electricity use. Shout out to Steve Jobs!
This is a good blog on the advantages of electricity. I agree that people could do little without the use of electricity. But with this, many people who experienced first-hand the difference between gas lighting and electricity most likely where astounded. Many people would have seen life as much safer and easier with the introduction of electricity. Living without it would be too much of a burden.
Electricity is very important yes, but there are people who can live without it. Take, for example, the Amish. Absolutely no electricity. And they live it up!!! With their...seesaws and such. haha. I would not make it as an Amish citizen.
This blog illustrates the advantages and disadvantages. Electricity is SOO important in my life, i could not survive without it. without electricity i couldn't even write this blog to you. great blog girl.
